Born in New Jersey, Glenn Woods actually grew up in the south, on Sanibel and Captiva islands Florida. There his mother was a manager at Ballies General Store and for a few years the family owned and operated Twin Palm Cottages on Captiva Island. As a young man Glenn acted at the Pirate Playhouse Theater at its old location in a former schoolhouse.
Since then Glenn has been a DJ, a morning radio show host, and a network talk show host. He even traveled for a few years as a stand up comic working local comedy clubs.
In 1998 Glenn left Tampa, took a job in Gainesville Florida hosting a morning radio show, and began homecaring his father who sufferd from Alzheimer's. In a few years he was no longer able to leave his father at home alone, and so quit his job to care for him full time. “It is then that I decided to become a writer,” said Glenn. “I’ve dreamed of it since I was six years old.”
His critically acclaimed novel, Essence: This Child Ghost Wants to Tell You Her Story! is A different kind of ghost story.Savannah, Georgia, from the first days of the Civil War to the present, is the setting for this tale of a most unusual haunting. Luzette, only eleven years old when a stray bullet ended her lifetime, shares with the reader the account of her deathtime. Confined to the house where she died by forces she struggles to understand, Luzette's spirit is at times a warm and welcoming presence and at others a fearsome specter. The changes to the house, the evolution of the cultural and social mores of the surrounding society, the people who live out their lives in the old house, as well as Luzette's interactions with Savannah citizens, alive and dead, all enrich the story of Luzette's struggle to find her mother and be "taken up."
Alzheimer's took Glenn's father, July 4th, 2005.
