Albert A. Bell, Jr., was born in South Carolina in 1945. Since 1978, he has been living in Michigan and teaching at a small college there. Bell holds several academic degrees: an M. A. from Duke, an M. Div. from Southeastern Seminary, and a Ph. D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to teaching and writing, he enjoys working in his yard and collecting baseball cards.

Bell's first article was published in 1972. He considers himself more of a story-teller than a literary artist. He writes books in several categories which are of interest to him. Bell is the author of Perfect Game, Imperfect Lives: A Memoir Celebrating the 50th Anniv. of Don Larsen's Perfect Game. He teaches about the ancient world, especially Rome, so it's not surprising that he has written about that era, both in fiction and non-fiction. Bell's Exploring the New Testament World has been used in a number of college and university classes. His first mystery novel, Kill Her Again, is the first in a proposed series. Other mystery novels by Bell which are also first in a series include All Roads Lead to Murder: A Case from the Notebooks of Pliny the Younger and Death Goes Dutch: A Wooden Shoe Mystery.

When his children were young, Bell read to them a lot and developed some ideas for stories of his own. Bell is also the author of an historical mystery novel for ages 9-11, called The Secret of the Lonely Grave.
